The reopening of the Iron Horse Bridge is great news for commuters, consumers and businesses. The bridge reopens to traffic at 8 a.m. on October 31. For the first time in sixteen months, north and south access across NE Loop 820 is available to enter and exit nearby retailers just in time for the holiday shopping season. Upon full completion in 2014, the new bridge which is located a three-quarter mile west of Rufe Snow will be double the previous capacity (5 lanes + a sidewalk from just 2 lanes) in order to accommodate 18,000 cars per day.
City officials, business leaders and nearby residents will celebrate the reopening with a brief ribbon cutting at 8 a.m. this Thursday October 31, 2013. The event will take place on the north side of the bridge, near Staples. A reception will follow at Iron Horse Golf Course, located just south of the bridge. Overall, work on the North Tarrant Express project to rebuild and widen NE Loop 820 and State Highway 183 is more than 70 percent complete.
