Work will begin this week on a new RaceTrac convenience store located at the southeast corner of Davis Boulevard and Maplewood Avenue. The site will provide 18 filling stations and a 5,500 square foot convenience store and market with indoor and outdoor patio seating.
As a part of the City’s targeted Economic Development strategy to ‘Redevelop and Revitalize Commercial Corridors,’ RaceTrac will occupy property that formerly housed a vacant Fina Mart, an automotive repair shop, and Alvarado’s Mexican restaurant, which relocated to a larger location at 5302 Davis Boulevard. The new RaceTrac adheres to updated City architectural standards with a design that includes a brick and stone exterior. In addition, a 15’ yard and 6’ tall masonry wall will be incorporated on the east side that borders residential.
Over 40,000 cars per day pass this location. From a safety standpoint, the new store reduces an excess amount of driveways while providing cross-access to and from Total Shooting Sports to the south. In order to prevent pass through vehicular traffic through the adjacent residential neighborhood, Birchwood Drive will be permanently closed roughly 500’ west of Grove Street. The project is expected to be complete in late summer or early fall this year.
